Update (25 September 2009): We have accomplished our goal thanks to the mobile9 platform! Today, their counter shows 123 181 downloads of our first aid application. Awesome!

Today I accidentally discovered the website of mobile9.com and found our first aid software uploaded there: http://gallery.mobile9.com/f/857112/

I rubbed my eyes in disbelief: Between 24 July - 18 August (26 days) the software has been downloaded 30.645 times from this website! **ufff

We had approximately 50 000 distributions so far, plus those 30 000 now, makes 80 000 worldwide. Just awesome!

If the download speed continues like that, we surely get over the magic number of 100 000 soon! Looking forward to it...

Vietnamese Version Released

Hi folks out there! We are very happy to announce the release of the Vietnamese Version for Java Mobile and Flash-Lite.

It was really hard to program, especially to all the special chars which come along with a language... So I am even more happy to have managed this!

A big thank you goes to Vu Nguyen who did a great job with the proofreading and the translation of the website. Of course, I also like to thank Thanh Dang who started the translation work with his friends and showed discipline all over the time :)

High number of Downloads from Mosh (Nokia)

Today I have uploaded our project files to mosh.nokia.com, and was totally surprised later on!I found out that somebody else uploaded our project in Nov/Dec 2007 two times (Link 1 and 2)!!!

Numbers of Downloads: 3.431 + 5.683 = 9.114 in total!

Those additional downloads boost our statistic, they nearly double our success!

I feel happy getting such a nice surprise this day.

Let's see how the MOSH community is reacting on the new uploads of the current versions:

I know, as I have received several commercial offers meanwhile, that those figures might bring tears to the eyes of some business people. A download price of just 0,50 Euro per unit had caused a turnover of 1.427 Euros for January.

Instead I have received 0,00 Euros.

Why that? In granting the software for free it is ensured that EVERYBODY can obtain the first aid information, and money respectively greed for profit are no barrier to ultimately help a human being.

Please Note: The project tries to survive by donations, even if still not working. Sponsors can contact me if interested in financial support. Of course this will be mentioned on the project's website.

The number of users and the level of awareness increase daily. In the beginning of February there have been about 140 users per day (for February 4.200 downloads are expected). It shall be remarked that the visitors to our project (in contrast to other websites with pseudo visiting numbers) reach the web page on purpose.

Furthermore you can recognise by the statistics above that much more people are using the opportunity to download the program by WAP (via the URL wap.firstai.de), and install the software to their mobiles directly.

ComputerBild

ComputerBild is a well recognised magazine in Germany.

After the mention of the first aid project in the new release of the magazine (see ComputerBild online) the download numbers jolt up.

Mind that ComputerBild has a print of about 690.000 units, and therefore an audience of approximately 4,14 mio (2008). The project benefits from this event greatly, as there are no financial means for marketing.

Interview on Radio Rockland

I had the pleasure to hold a interview on Radio Rockland from Mainz last week.

At this point, I would like to thank Christian Hofferbert from the editorial team for his great commitment.

The 30 min interview has been cut indeed to a report of 2 min but I am glad that the main message was transferred to the listeners, and that there has been an increasing number of visitors from the German federal states Hessen and Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Conclusion

The program is installed on the mobile phones / smartphones / PDAs / PocketPCs / iPhones of more than 10.000 people!

To add one zero at the end of this figure would be the next groundbreaking success!

I am very grateful to Dr. Stefan Strasser who gave permission to use the illustrations of his project Med4Teens for the mobile software. Of course: for non-commercial purpose!

French and Lithuanian Website + Software

Both have translated the website and the whole software into their mothertongue during the last couple of weeks. See the wiki for the first aid text.

How many Downloads

In fact the project is very famous among Germans but not too much in English domains?!

We have got about 100 English Downloaders per month. This is good, but still few.

The number of German downloads is much higher: Within the last month there have been 840 direct downloads from firstai.de, and 676 (Softonic) + 183 (SE-World) downloads from hosting sites.

It is nice to see an increase of public interest, but it's still a long way to go.

Proofreading done - New English Versions released

Thanks so much to somebody unknown from the UK who took their time and transformed my translation into proper medical English! See the First Aid Wiki for details.

As a result, I spent the week-end to correct all English versions, and, by the way, added all emergency numbers from our world's countries...

I had some problems with my IDE that collapsed after an installation. After setting up all the projects anew, I really hope that everything is clean now. If you might find anything that's not correct please be so kind and inform me.

First Aid goes iPhone

3 months after the release of 2.0 Beta Version (j2me) I am proud to announce a brand new version for Apple's iPhone.

The software provides all necessary information on emergencies as well as phone numbers of police, fire, and medical/ambulance for all countries in the world!

What has happened during the last three months?

1. Illustrations

I have had contacts to a few designers from USA and Germany. Until now without success.

Needed Illustrations:
- Recovery Position (4 images)
- Mouth-to-Mouth Breathing (2 images)
- Heart Massage (2 images)
- Rescue Grip (3 images)
- Choking (3 images)
- Others (3 images)

To buy them, we need at least 80 € per illustration: 17 images x 80 € = investment of about 1.360 Euro

2. Financing since 2007

- Google Adsense + Affiliates: ca. 15 Euros
- Donations: 4 Euros

Why do we need money?
- Illustrations
- Translations
- Certifications
- Development for further sytems
- Development of new versions
- Production of Short Movies
- Establishing an sms-service
- To pay the server.

Without money the project is in danger. At the moment, it just survives due to a few volunteers.

As we cover the whole market of mobile phones now (providing versions for iPhone, Java-Mobile, FlashLite), the distribution of the software will increase distinctly!

Acquisition of First Aid Images

In the beginning of June 2008 I contacted the British Red Cross on their website for First Aid Tips because the images there seemed to me quite professional for our project.

Yesterday, I unfortunately got an unexpected negative reply.

How sad! I suppose, there are many red cross members out there who would possibly support our project and the use of those images.

Well, I have to say that I feel a bit disappointed.

But anyway, the chase after first aid images must go on!

Release of Version 1.0 (Flash Lite)

Since yesterday the download of the Flash Lite Version is available on the project's website.

There are 3 Flash Lite profiles, version 1.x, 2.x and 3.x. However, even the current modern mobiles do not support Flash Lite 3, therefore I developed the software in FL2.

To use the application you have to click on the image (which is actually a swf-file) and then use the cursors of your keyboard.
